Customer data standardisation in banking: managing master data quality at scale
One of Italy's largest banking groups integrated Egon both on its Host systems and in individual departments' applications to standardise addresses, tax codes, email addresses and phone numbers, and to guarantee customer data quality in its CRM at scale.
The challenge
In a bank, data quality is a basic requirement. Correct customer master data feeds the CRM, customer communications and many internal processes: a wrong address, an inconsistent tax code or an invalid contact detail can delay a communication or compromise a customer file.
Across millions of records, keeping data consistent and of high quality is not easy. Data is created and flows through different systems, from the central (Host) systems to the applications used by each department. The bank therefore needed a standardisation solution that could be integrated into both environments.
The solution
Egon was integrated both on the Host systems and in the departmental applications, to capture, verify and maintain data on customers and addresses over time. Standardisation covers four types of data:
- Addresses, brought into a consistent, correct format.
- Tax codes.
- Email addresses.
- Phone numbers.
This way, data is handled with the same rules wherever it enters the bank's information systems.
The results
- Standardised, high-quality customer data, captured through a controlled process.
- Faster communications, without delays or errors caused by incorrect data.
- Greater consistency of information across systems and departments.
